from hospital gowns…

In October 2024, at the age of 42, I was diagnosed with bowel cancer. It came out of nowhere - I had been healthy, busy building my career, DJing, and living life to the fullest. Like many in our community, I had no family history of cancer, and bowel cancer was something I thought only happened later in life.

The diagnosis hit like a truck. Suddenly my days were filled with hospital gowns, tests, and treatment plans instead of gigs and club nights. I faced surgery, recovery, and the uncertainty of what my future would hold. Along the way, I learned how little cancer is spoken about in LGBTQ+ spaces, and how easily we can fall through the cracks when it comes to awareness, early detection, and support.

What saved me was openness - learning to talk about my cancer, sharing what was happening, and finding community with others who understood. It became clear to me that silence around cancer costs lives. I knew I wanted to use my story to make sure others didn’t face the same shock, fear, and unpreparedness that I did.

My world has always been music. As DJ Dallyn, I’ve spent years behind the decks, co-creating unapologetically queer spaces like Silly B!tch Disco - places full of joy, love, and community. After my diagnosis, those spaces took on a new meaning. They weren’t just about partying; they became a lifeline, a reminder of who I was outside of illness, and a stage where I could begin to turn pain into purpose.

With the support of organisations like OUTpatients - who connect and empower LGBTQ+ people affected by cancer - I realised the power of blending community, creativity, and health. That’s where Booty Call CIC was born. 🍑

Booty Call is a queer-led community interest company with a cheeky name and a serious mission: to bring cancer awareness into queer spaces - onto dancefloors, into Pride festivals, and across grassroots venues where our communities gather. By mixing lived experience, public health priorities, and queer nightlife culture, Booty Call will:

  • Deliver bold, creative campaigns to raise cancer awareness.

  • Partner with venues, brands, and health organisations to save lives through visibility and inclusion.

  • Reinvest all profits into LGBTQ+ health, equity, and wellbeing projects.

Booty Call is about turning survival into impact - and making sure no queer person has to face cancer alone or unprepared.
